Our Ethos.

To bring fun and adventure into Wellness.

When was the last time you were woken by the cacophony of bird song? Why don't you let the Moreporks, Kiwi, Weka's of Parohe awaken you or if that's not your thing, bring earplugs and sleep in.

When have you ever done sunrise yoga on a sheltered jetty listening to fish jumping whilst the sun warms your back...or when have you gone fishing whilst your partner is doing that? It might be slightly later than sunrise.

When did you last have a warm bath set in a teatree forest, listening to a gentle running brook?....We didn't think so ...but we think its time you tried.

Have you ever used the affectionate ear of an Alpaca to tell your secrets to? It should not be underrated.

When was the last time you looked up to the night sky and saw stars so bright you thought you were at the helm of The Starship Enterprise? And no we don't micro dose AND this is not a chapter out of Nine Perfect Strangers. It’s just that we have such natural beauty around us we believe that by being present in it, inhaling it, allowing our senses to be indulged in it, sharing it with others, brings us back to ourselves and our own wellness can take a stronger hold.

Who are we?

A great philosophical question! Parohe was one of the many crazy ideas generated by its parent company Equinox Group. During the tumultuous time of the dreaded Covid Pandemic, whilst most of the world stood still, the idea of a safe haven that could be shared with others crystallised and then came into being. A twin sibling was also born at this time in the form of an organic regenerative dairy farm on the Kaipara Harbour. The two enterprises are entirely separate but the ethos, philosophy is the same. Regeneration, for soil, for animals (even the human ones) to see if we can change our course for the better.

Where are we?

Parohe is nestled at the very end of Bon Accord Harbour on Kawau Island. The Parohe jetty is situated in the safest of the anchorages in all weathers, which is not a bad metaphor for who we are!

Historically, the local Iwi would find great vantage points in the bush laiden hills above us. If you choose to go for a bush walk when you visit, you will see evidence of the Middens and the Pah.

The flats below us have nurtured local produce for many generations of New Zealanders. Most famously Governor Gray, who resided at Mansion House with his family at the mouth of the harbour. Governor Gray was nurtured not only by the garden but intriguingly by the gardener (rumoured to be his mistress) and whose home is the first thing you will see when you come and visit us. We will welcome you there too, but with a little more restraint. We will however seduce you with as much fresh produce from our garden that our resident chef can grow and use and if you take advantage of the casual fishing trips we offer, you might provide yourself and the other guests with a pescatarian feast.
